Richard, age 81, passed away peacefully August 18, 2015 surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Huberta (Metcalfe) Hommrich of Louisville, KY, daughter Carol, granddaughters Christie Medley and Katherine Hommrich and brothers Frank, Jerry, Jim, and Paul.
He is survived by loving wife of 60 years, Kathleen Oldham Hommrich, children Mark (Kay), David, Gary (Gayla), Sharon (Rick) Jackson, Tim, granddaughters Gretchen and Cara, brothers Reverend Thomas Hommrich and Steve (Diane), and sisters Jean Pitcock, Doris Hall , Anita (Louie) Thomas, Claire (Sonny) Frantz, and Lois (Richie) White, sister-in-laws Dotsy, Ann, and Diane and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Richard was born in Louisville KY where he began a long distinguished career in the barge industry. In 1983 he founded Volunteer Barge & Transport, Inc., Nashville, TN, where he served as President until retirement in 2004. He was a member and served on the Boards of several trade organizations including Propeller Club of Nashville, National Waterways Conference, Tennessee River Valley Association and the Tennessee Tombigbee Development Authority. He was active member of the Doneleson-Hermitage Rotary Club for many years. Richard was a long-time parishioner at Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he served in several lay ministries.
Visitation will be held on August 21st from 4 to 8 PM at Hermitage Funeral Home. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on August 22nd at 11 AM at Holy Rosary Church with Father Mark Hunt, Celebrant. Burial will be on August 24th 11 am at Calvary Cemetery, Louisville, KY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
