Jack was a self-made man. The Lord sent him to a poor struggling couple during the time when this country was in a deep depression. Although they only had one child, they struggled to survive. He began his education in the Catholic schools (Holy Name and Father Ryan) where he received his religious education as well as academics.
He served his country in the U.S. Military during the Korean War, his time being spent in Germany. He enjoyed his time in Germany and in later years had a strong desire to return for a visit.
On return from the military he began his career as a brick mason. He began by learning to lay brick, then how to estimate the cost of a project, then he started his own masonry contracting business. He had a partner with whom he shared the company. They worked together for over thirty years, Although they pursued other projects, masonry was their first and last love.
Jack retired from the business when he was in his early sixties. He was able to spend more time with his family then. He loved to call himself “The Godfather.” He enjoyed the children coming to him for advice.
His hobbies when he was younger were duck hunting, fishing, traveling, and an occasional trip to Kentucky to watch horse races. Unfortunately, in recent years his health would not permit most of these pleasures. However, he took great pleasure in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his precious canine pal Scooter. He also never missed the opportunity to share a good joke withhis buddies.
He was a very intense and driven man. His life was centered around his family and his business both of which he served well. His passing will leave an empty place in many hearts.
He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Martha Syble Norman; daughters, Sherry Carney (Larry) and Rosemary Neely (Patrick); son, Steve Norman (Nancy); grandchildren, Candice Hayes (Jeremy), Christopher Neely, Andrew Neely, Murphy Norman and Robert Norman.
