Gordon grew up in East Nashville, the oldest of four children. He attended Nashville public schools and after graduating from East High School in 1960, he moved to Chicago to attend Devry Technical Institute to study electronics. He graduated with an Electronics Associates degree and worked in the field of electronics his entire career in a wide variety of areas. He worked for the L&N Railroad for two years, riding the rails repairing two-way radio equipment and playing cards with other railroad staff during their down time; he repaired medical equipment for hospitals while working for Honeywell; he worked as the Chief Sound Engineer for the Grand Old Opry/Ryman Auditorium and then as Chief Engineer for WSM-AM for many years; he repaired recording studio equipment for numerous recording studios in the Nashville area and beyond; he sold electronics; and he worked for the Department of Agriculture doing two-way radio installation and repair. Gordon loved his work and enjoyed learning new skills throughout his career.
Gordon dearly loved his family and he also had a great fondness for children and animals. He loved and was very proud of his sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Due to his love of animals, it was not unusual for him to bring home strays that would often become beloved forever pets. Gordon lovingly referred to his wife, Susan, as his child bride, due to a difference in their respective ages. He called her his child bride well into her fifties and beyond, which she loved. Gordon enjoyed playing bridge and card games with family and friends, reading science fiction, working Suduko puzzles, and working on and using computers.
Gordon will be greatly be missed by family and friends. Charitable donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association in lieu of flowers. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the Evans family by selecting “Add a Memory” at the bottom of this page.
