James Michael Sullivan, 79, passed away on April 2, 2026 in Jackson, Tennessee. Born February 13, 1947, James was a beloved and cherished man—hard-working, honest, and resilient in the steady way he lived and loved. He resided in Holladay, Tennessee, where the simple rhythms of home and family meant everything to him.
James served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, carrying that experience with quiet strength throughout his life. After his military service, he worked for a while with a trucking company before finding his greatest fulfillment with the maintenance department at Cumberland Machinery, where his dependable hands and straightforward integrity spoke louder than any title ever could.
Above all else, James was devoted to his family. He was married to the love of his life for forty-four years, a bond that remained a constant source of comfort, pride, and gratitude. The life he built was not measured in grand gestures, but in daily faithfulness—showing up, working hard, telling the truth, and loving his people well.
James was preceded in death by his father, James Hallie Sullivan, and his mother, Claudia Ziegler Sullivan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anita Jo (White) Sullivan of Holladay, Tennessee; his daughter, Dixie Goodman (Dell) of Henderson, Tennessee; his grandsons, Cameron Goodman of Nashville, Tennessee, and Bailey Goodman (Alexis) of Dacula, Georgia; and his great-grandsons, Owen Goodman and Isaac Goodman.
James will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, held close in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
James will be laid to rest at Hermitage Memorial Gardens in the Garden of the Cross in a private service. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the Sullivan by selecting "Add a Memory" at the bottom of this page.
