Born on November 1, 1970, Jay was raised in Mt. Juliet, TN and graduated from Mt Juliet High School in 1989. He attended Tennessee Technological University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing in 1993 and a Master of Business Administration in 1995. Jay went on to build a successful 30-year career as an Information Systems Analyst, Programmer and Information Technology Manager.
In his early years, Jay enjoyed playing baseball, riding bikes and roaming around the neighborhood with friends. His lifelong love of music began early listening to his vinyl record collection. During his high school years and college, Jay played guitar and sang vocals in several bands. Music remained his passion and in recent years he produced and recorded two albums of original music. He spent countless hours writing songs and playing his beloved Sunburst Fender Stratocaster. Rock and Roll remained his genre of choice.
Jay cherished time with family and friends. Known affectionately as “Bird,” he had a contagious sense of humor and an uncanny ability to make people laugh. He was loyal, dependable and steady serving as a source of strength and comfort to those who knew him. With his calm, even-keeled nature, Jay was a constant presence in the lives of so many people.
Jay loved people deeply and unconditionally. He was slow to judge, quick to listen, and always willing to offer kindness and understanding. He also took great pride in being a devoted “cat dad” and dearly loved his four cats. Above all, Jay was a loving and genuine soul whose warmth, humor, creativity and unwavering friendship will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Jay is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Stacy Street; his mother, Cindy Mezzatesta; his brother, Richard Mezzatesta; his niece, Dakota Mezzatesta; and his nephew, Michael Mezzatesta. He is preceded in death by Richard Mezzatesta, Sr.
