

Jerry Richard Bates, of Mount Juliet, TN, born February 14, 1959, passed away to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 8th, 2025, at the age of 66. Jerry was born in Nashville and grew up in Antioch, TN, where he attended Antioch High School. Jerry was an excellent athlete in school, and loved sports his whole life. He especially excelled in football, was selected as Western Player of the Year 1977, The Tennessean All Nashville First Team and was awarded a football scholarship to Middle TN State University. Jerry graduated from MTSU in 1983.
Jerry retired two years ago after a career in sales and distribution, with Charles C. Parks and A & K Distribution. Jerry was an avid and excellent golfer, who loved being with his “golf buddies” every week and enjoyed playing at courses all over Middle TN and FL. His greatest love was his family, his wife and two daughters, two son-in-laws and two grandsons.
Jerry was preceded in death by his Mother, Wanda Murphy Bates Barr, father James Carlos Bates and step-father William Barr, from College Grove and Murfreesboro, TN.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 36 years, Karen (Wilburn) Bates, daughter Lauren Bockoven (Nick), daughter Kayla Saroniero (Rob), grandsons Bates Ryan Bockoven and Rhett William Bockoven. Also surviving sisters are Jamie Mrzena (Scott), Cris Stapp (Ken), and Robyn Barrett (Bill), along with four nieces and nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank all the many friends and family members for their special love, care, and support during this challenging time.
A Visitation for Jerry with family and friends will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14th, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Hermitage Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN, followed by a Celebration of Life service from 12:00 – 1:00 PM. Pastor Danny Tomlinson to conduct the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks donations be made to Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro or to the charity of your choice.
