Jerry and I were not close friends. But I saw him from time to time and always thought he was a great guy. Through HS and in our later years, every time I saw him, it made me happy. He was a special guy, and of course, athlete. RIP Jerry, you were awesome in every way.

I am so sorry for your loss. I grew up with the Bates family on Cherokee Hills Dr in Antioch. I have fond memories of us running around the neighborhood playing. Jerry was always in the middle of it all. Praying that you have peace and discernment.

Jerry was a dedicated father, husband, grandfather and friend. I had the pleasure of knowing him for over sixty years. We competed against one another in baseball at Haywood Elementary, The Boys Club, youth football and played together at Antioch HS. He was the most competitive person I have ever met, make no mistake he did his best to beat you. His athleticism at almost any sport made us all envious. His athletic accolades were numerous, just to mention one: 1976 Western Division Player of the year.  We played golf together with a group of friends for over thirty years and had many great memories. After most rounds we would typically meet in the parking lot enjoying an adult beverage and Jerry holding court, wisecracks for all, no one was spared and nothing out of bounds. Boy this will be missed!
Over the pasted 6 to 7 years that Jerry was sick we had many conversations about his health, checking in to see how he was doing, discussing his treatment options or what was next. I know he was in pain and under a lot of stress. The calls were mainly for encouragement , support and that to say we loved him. 
My “Forever Jerry memory”was seeing the sparkle in his eyes and the big smile on his face when he told us about Lauren or Kayla. Their careers, getting married or having babies. But the big one was about the grandkids, boy was he a proud grandfather! 
He loved telling us about the grandkids. 
I am sure last Tuesday morning Wanda had her arms open and awaiting her beloved son. 
You will be missed my friend RIP!

Jerry was my best friend and roommate at MTSU . We did everything together. What a great athlete and great person he was . I had so many great memories with him and his Antioch friends. It’s hard to believe he’s gone . I will always remember you and the great times we had . I know your heaven now and not in any pain . Rest in Peace my friend. You will always be remembered. Ace

I’m so sorry to hear of “ JB” passing. I have the best memories of him  back in Murfreesboro. All the softball games, cookouts, and laughs.

My deepest sympathy in loss of Jerry. We were next door neighbors at Notthingham Apartments in Murfreesboro during our college days.  We had so many fun times together. He always had a smile on his face. This is the way I will remember him. Prayers for all his loved ones.
