Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mildred Murphy; his brother, C.H. Murphy; and his grandson, Michael.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Maryetta Murphy; his children, Jimmy (Lisa) Murphy, Rhonda Murphy (Gabe) Hannah, and Troy (Ardena) Murphy; grandchildren, Brandon (Rachel), Bailey Ross, Connor, Noah, Naomi, and Seth (Jamie); great-grandchildren, Ellery Marie, Bo Murphy, Huck Stillwell, Trott Wayne, Ella Kate, and Bennett Murphy; sisters, Joanna Reeves and Norma Ray Galloway; as well as numerous friends, loved ones, and his church family.
Jimmy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith. He was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church for 63 years, where he served as a deacon and was deeply involved in ministry work. During a mission trip, there was a church and school built in Liberia that was named Madison Heights Baptist Church in Jimmy’s honor for the work he provided state side.
Jimmy loved his family, his faith, and golfing. He also had a gift for working with his hands. He enjoyed refinishing antiques and was talented in woodworking, upholstery, building anything, mechanics, and electrical engineering. He worked for many years at DuPont as a mechanical engineer.
Jimmy will be remembered for his strong faith, his love for his family, his servant’s heart, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. The burial will follow at Hermitage Funeral Home.
The service will be officiated by Bro. Ray Marin and Chuck Dice.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Lee Howell, Tommy McFerrin, Brandon Schneider, Seth McFerrin, Noah Murphy, Kevin Dickens, Steve Campbell and Steve Slater.
Scott Dice and Connor Murphy will serve as honorary pallbearers.
