I have seen all the notes that have been posted about the resent loss of my husband, they all mean so much to me. It is very conforting and special and even though it was over so many years ago Christie Short, his former wife, was kind enough to reflect some fond memories and bring to light wonderful things about my husband. To Brittany and the girls ~ Although I knew Joe for just the last few years,I knew him well enough to know that you and the girls meant the world to him. I smiled that on his facebook page, he was telling the world how very much he loved you.and I am so happy for him that he got to experience real love and a soulmate (and fatherhood) before leaving this world and I am certain he is still at your side watching over you and the girls from heaven above. I know he would want you to be strong and take care of yourself and his girls. Deepest sympathy and love to you. Keep strong in your faith and God will get you through this.

Brian Brockway my brother-in-law who spoke at the funeral knew Joey well enough to tell wonderful things about him, what they meant to each other and the accomplishments he attained in his life. I wish I could have had the opportunity to speak and tell what he meant to me and the things I saw him over come and accomplish. Joey had a GREAT sense of humor. He really was funny. He could tell a story so vividly you almost felt like you were there. He was a pilot, he was a technician, he had a love of drawing and was so talented. He loved life. He had a mind that was so mechanical, he could figure out just about anything having to do with electronics, and be right! He was a feeler, he was compassionate, he was forgiving, and he was a great friend. He did overcome without complaining, but the story behind that was he just soaked up life and he was Joey the Survivor, not Joey the downtrodden or sick.

Joey and I grew up together. We learned together, we traveled together, we EXPERIENCED both richer and poorer, in sickness and in health. We clung to each other during the hard times, and we loved each other very much. I knew his soul, for most of his life I knew his next move before he even knew what he was going to do. I was there when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior forever, and that is how I know he is in heaven, and knows my heart even today. His death does not remove any of these things from me. I will always have them in my heart. Joey and I just grew to a point where we were different people than we were when we were teenagers and it was time to go different directions. Which seemed to be a decision which worked very well for both of us.

The last four years looked very happy for Joey. And, I am so happy he got to be a dad. He always wanted to be a dad. I don't have to see the pictures to know he loved those beautiful girls. He loved children. He loved to teach them to do things, kid around, and guide them with life lessons. He was a strong man.

Don, Barbara, Sally, Brian, Will, Nicole, Robbie, Edie, Velecia, Josh, Liz, Sandy, Grandma and Grandpa McHone, Grandma and Grandpa Savage, Grandma and Grandpa Kyler and all other family you all were an intricate part of my growing up. I learned so much from you. I always enjoyed being with you from a kid until now. You challenged me, you guided me and above all you loved and accepted me flaws and all. Please know I thank God you all were in my life. Joey had MANY Happy years with ALL of us. I regret nothing in my life and above all Joey and I were best friends and partners in life for almost 20 years.

Dearest  Barbara,our beloved daughter .All the words in the world  can not  express the lost of Joey ,our grandson and the grief that we all share .But as we read thru the many endearing  comments from people who knew and loved him we know that Joey is not gone but lives forever in our hearts .

Don and Sally,  I am so sorry for your loss.  Know that you all continue to be in my prayers.  Don I know our Father doesn't place more on us than we can bare. I have never had anything like this but struggled with some things in the past (you and Sally know what I am talking about!)  I wish I could have been at the service but our company was just purchased by another and it has been a whirlwind of activity.  I only say that because I read your email to my management staff last Friday to remind each of them that although we are stressed at times to remember what is REALLY IMPORTANT and that's family!  Your email has touched people's lives you don't even know and they are praying for you all also!  I am so thankful that Edie was blessed to be a part of such a wonderful family and I feel as though I am part of it too.  Don, Sally I love you guys and if I can do anything call! The loss of a loved one is never easy whether its expected or unexpected as my dear friend Joe.  I interviewed Joe when he came to work at Verizon Wireless and in that first meeting I knew there was something special about this man.  He shared with me in the interview his journey with his kidney transplant and I so admired him for his strength and courage.  Joe shared with me the state of his current health condition with his kidney and his ankle.  Joe never complained, he came to work even when we could all see that he wasn't feeling well but he'd always say "I'm alright".  I will certainly miss Joe and his sweet spirit.  To Britney and the girls - he loved you all so very much.  It's a blessing to know that death is not final, but eternity with Christ Jesus.  I love you and miss you Joe.

To my Friend, Co-worker, and Battle Buddie Joe, I remember when you started with us at VZW in the class not much after mine had started. When you hit the floor it was always you and I battling for the top spot for score cards in CMO. We also gave each other little ideas we used to help get sales etc. I remember when you applied for developmental supv. and got the position, and when a permanent position became available I knew what better person for the job but you. You where always a good friend and always kept looking out for me about different job opportunities even when I promoted and moved to a different department. You always knew how to make me laugh if I didn't crack a joke with you first. I remember our talks about your health and family and bro i didn't tell you, but it really hurt me inside know what problems you had and gave me a more different outlook on life because tomorrow is not guaranteed. God called you home because he is tired of you having to suffer and he wants yo to live a hurt free forever living life. I know for sure you will be watching over us all as well as your family up in Heaven. All prayers goes out to your family too. To a Wonderful friend, and co-worker you will be truly missed my Brother. Through all your pain you kept a smile on your face. Love You Bro.

Just want to give my deepest sympathies to all of Joe's loved ones.  As many people have echoed, Joe was a special guy who could make work more enjoyable. I'll always remember him for his stories. Loss is never easy, I will miss seeing his smiling face walk past me each day. He had a drive and positive attitude that was appreciated by many of his co-workers. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I was on Joe's current team at Verizon Wireless, he was an awesome supervisor and always looked out for his reps. We always joked throughout the day and he always made sure I was ok. Joe hired me at Verizon and he always told me he felt it was a great decision and he believed in me. He will be truly missed and my heart goes out to his wife and girls, who he always let us know he loved dearly.

Words cannot explain the loss the world has just endured. Joe was such a good and loving man. Joe gave me so much insight through the time that I knew him. He pushed and guided me to measures I couldn't believe. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have met my spouse and be as knowledgeable as I am today. My condolences to his family and friends. Hi, my name is Lesli Riggins and I work in the same Call Center as Joe and had him as my Supervisor.  I had the honor of learning from his expertise as he was not only one of my supervisors but I always relied on him.  Joe was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.  Joe always came to work with a great attitude and a great sense of style and humor. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Joe was an admired and respected co-worker.  He had a strong work ethic and was very successful at what he did.  Joe talked about his family often and we felt the love he had for all of you.  He shared many stories that made you laugh with him.  Joe will be missed by all.
