John C. Moody, age 82 of Old Hickory, TN, went home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2019. He was the son of John and Sadie Moody. John was born in Jersey City and spent his early years in Bayonne, NJ. After high school, he moved to Beachwood, NJ, and joined the police department. After two years in the U.S. Army, he returned to the police department and was appointed Police Chief in 1962. He received his Associate degree at Ocean County College, Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Stockton State College, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University. Chief Moody retired after 38 years in law enforcement, 35 of those years as Chief. During his career, he co-founded the Fellowship of Christian Police Officers in Ocean County, served as President of both the County and State Chiefs Associations, and is a graduate of the National FBI Academy. He was an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Middlesex County College NJ. John was an active member of the International Gideon Ministry, and member of First Baptist Church, Toms River, NJ, and Morgans Baptist Church, Moneta, VA. He attended Tulip Grove Baptist Church, Old Hickory, TN.
He is survived by his wife, Edna, of 59 years, three sons, John K. and wife, Jun, Frisco, TX, Jeffrey L. and wife, Diane, Old Hickory, TN, and Thomas P. and wife, Meghan, Jackson, NJ. One granddaughter, Reilly, and three grandsons, John, Callan, and Julian, one sister, Doris Rose of Toms River, NJ.
Services will be private, with burial at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
