John began his career as an apprentice meat cutter with the Kroger Company in 1956 in Kentucky. He was promoted to numerous positions during his 42 year long career, including store manager and district supervisor. His last move was to the Nashville headquarters as a pricing analyst in 1986 where he remained until he retired in 1997. Since he was a boy, he enjoyed St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, and he was an avid UK basketball fan. He loved to grill for family and friends, and he made sure no bird went hungry on a cold winter day.
