

Joseph Lucian Patterson, SMSgt USAF (Retired), age 76, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lillard Patterson and Jeanette Spitler Patterson and his wife, Marian June “Jaye” Cassity Patterson. Survived by his son, Eric Scott Patterson, daughter-in-law, Anitra Patterson and 7 grandchildren. Sergeant Patterson was born in Nashville, educated in Donelson Schools and attended the University of Tennessee. He enlisted in the Tennessee Air National Guard in 1957 and served with units of the 118th Airlift Wing for over 37 years, retiring in 1995 as Operations Superintendent. He was a student of family history and an amateur genealogist. Following his retirement from the Air National Guard, he was employed at The Hermitage, Home of President Andrew Jackson for over 14 years working as a historic interpreter. Military decorations included the USAF Meritorious Service Medal, USAF Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the USAF Achievement Medal and the Tennessee National Guard Distinguished Service Medal. Funeral Services will be conducted 2 pm Sunday, February 7, 2016 in Hermitage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Lyon officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
