Mrs. Johnson was raised in the Woodbine area of Nashville as a child and made her rounds every afternoon, as a little girl, to all her neighbors. She met her high school sweetheart, Richard Johnson, when she was fourteen years old. She graduated Central High School in 1960. Right after high school, she attended Beauty School and was a hairstylist for many years. Eventually, she and Richard were married and remained together for fifty-six years. They lived in Mount Juliet, Tennessee with their children for over fifty years.
Mrs. Johnson was stable and steady for her family. She was the “glue” that held it all together. Her perseverance and commitment to her children and husband were unwavering through the years. Always encouraging, supportive and wise, she sacrificed her needs for the needs of her family without hesitation. She will be remembered for her amazing sense of humor, faithful and unwavering strength, and also her tenacity and wisdom beyond her time. She was never afraid of hard work and tackled whatever task was at hand or needed to be done.
Mrs. Johnson was always the “life of the party”, very outgoing and never met a stranger. She was a Godly woman who loved the Lord. Proverbs 31:27-28 describe her perfectly: “She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her.” She will be greatly missed by her children, and they look forward to the day they are reunited in Heaven.
Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her father, Fred McGee; her mother, Margaret Irene Rice; her husband, Richard P. Johnson; and her sister, Joann Yates. She is survived by her son, Darryl Johnson (Kendra) of Chattanooga, TN; daughter, Jennifer Spivey (Chad) of Red Boiling Springs, TN; grandchildren Courtney Shaddock, Kendra Weems (Cody), Olivia Griffin (Carson), Lydia Johnson, Creighton Johnson; great-grandchild, Eli Jace Weems; and sister, Beverly White.
Mrs. Johnson will be laid to rest on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 12:00 PM in a Graveside Service at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tennessee. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the Johnson family by selecting “Add a Memory” at the bottom of this page.
