Let us celebrate the life of Kammy June Maxfeldt. She passed away on April 4, 2024. She was born in Kearney, Nebraska, on March 31, 1961, to parents, Arlen and Emma Maxfeldt and was the oldest of three children.
Family and faith were most important to Kammy. She took love seriously, and sacrificed her time and talent to do anything for her family and friends whom she considered family. Her lifelong friends, Birchwood family, and Norwalk / Port St. Lucie network of friends meant the world to her and the love she extended to them was selfless. Kammy was a faithful Christian with a strong connection to the Jewish community as well.
Kammy developed a love for the game of golf at a young age. Her father loved spending time with her playing in Holdrege, Nebraska. She competed in her first golf tournament at the age of ten and attended Holdrege High School in Holdrege, Nebraska where she played on the golf team. Kammy was also part of the Ladies’ Golf Team at the University of Oklahoma and competed in many NCAA Golf Tournaments. She may have placed a few wagers here and there. Playing golf was what Kammy enjoyed most. She played eighty-four of the top one hundred golf courses in the United States. She also had thirteen “holes in one” to her credit.
Kammy worked at golf courses in OK, TN, TX, FL, and NY. She finished her successful career after twenty-one years as the Head Golf Professional at Birchwood Country Club in Westport, Connecticut. Kammy enjoyed teaching golf, especially to children whom she taught more than golf, she taught life lessons too. She was the 2013 National LPGA Professional of the Year and ranked the #1 Golf Instructor in Connecticut by Golf Digest for 2022-2023. She has played in five United States Golf Association tournaments and was the Metropolitan Section PGA Golf Professional of the year in 2024.
Kammy’s earthly life ended after years of battling cancer. Donations to the Cancer Research Institute at give.cancerresearch.org can be made in her name. Arlen, Kammy’s father also had cancer and her mother June has survived and beat cancer.
Kammy is preceded in death by her father, Arlen Maxfeldt; maternal grandparents, Vernon and Elizabeth Nelson; paternal grandparents, Albert and Fern Maxfeldt; and two golden retrievers.
