Lucille Lay Gordon, age 87 of Madison, TN, departed this life April 4, 2013, at home with family after having had failing health for the last couple of years. She never complained and always had a smile and a laugh for the people around her. Her life revolved around her activities at Northwood Baptist Church, being in the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class, the WMU, and the Senior Shining Stars. She was a long time member of the Home Demonstration Club in Lakewood, Tennessee; the Local 572 Retiree’s Club; and, in her younger years, was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a role model to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was born in Atwood, Alabama and was the youngest child of the late Nellie Amanda (Baty) Lay and Paul Elijah Lay. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Gordon in 2000, and by a son, Paul Gordon, in 2009. She is survived by 5 children: Mary Nell (Charles, deceased) Wiley of Adrian, Michigan; Tim Gordon of Terry, Mississippi; Muriel (Jerry) Humphries of Florence, Mississippi; Cindy (Tony) Maniscalco of Madison, Tennessee; and, Tommy (Renee) Gordon of Greenbrier, Tennessee. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. There are not enough words of thanks to one very special friend, traveling companion, and caring lady, Rachel Kuykendall, for the years of friendship, mischievousness and care provided by her to Lucille and her family. A special thanks go to the ladies that cared for her at home during the last year and a half, Ethel Krantz, Dorothy Perry, and Mary Pigg. No words can ever express the children’s appreciation for the excellent care and companionship these ladies provided to their mother. A note of thanks also to Angela, Kelly, Ryan, Glenn and Heather, all from Amedisys Home Health who worked so diligently with Lucille after her many hospitalizations; as well as to the Nashville Fire Department for their care and compassion during the times she had to be transported to the hospital. Pallbearers will be comprised of family members. Honorary pallbearers will be comprised of family members that are not able to be present for the services. The service will be a celebration of Lucille’s life at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013 in Hermitage Funeral Home Chapel and will be overseen by Pastor Barry Smith of Northwood Baptist Church, a dedicated pastor that dropped everything to be at her side when she requested him during the last days of her life. We are thankful. Visitation with the family 2 – 8 p.m. Sunday and 1 – 3 p.m. Monday.
