Lyman "Bert" Aris, a hard-working, compassionate, and adventurous man, passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on February 11, 1945, in Ypsilanti Michigan, Lyman, or Bert as he was more commonly known, was a devoted and loyal individual, beloved by his family and community.
Bert had a long and fulfilling career in construction and painting at the University of Michigan. His charismatic and energetic nature made him a cherished colleague and friend.
He was married to Lenna for 49 wonderful years, and together they shared a loving family of four children: Matthew Aris, Nikki Towler, Ken Aris, and Kathy Aris. Bert was a proud grandfather to Marissa Powley, Xander Brown, Ian Brown, Michael Aris, and Matthew Aris.
Bert was passionate about cars, often buying and collecting them, claiming they were usually for Lenna. His favorite was a 1957 Chevrolet Truck. Above all, he loved his family and cherished spending time with them, especially during their travels and camping trips across many states.
Deeply involved in his community, Bert and Lenna contributed tirelessly, whether building playgrounds or participating in local service projects. They were active members of their church congregation at Donelson Presbyterian and enjoyed activities at the Dickson Senior Center.
The family extends their gratitude for all of the support from friends, family, and the public during this time.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Donelson Presbyterian Church, located at 2305 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 21, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, with services beginning at 2:00pm.
Bert is survived by his loving wife, Lenna Aris; his children, Matthew Aris, Nikki Towler, Ken Aris, and Kathy Aris; his brother, Lionel Aris; and his grandchildren, Marissa Powley, Xander Brown, Ian Brown, Michael Aris, and Matthew Aris.
