Marjorie (Margie) Marie Butterworth was born on February 1, 1937, to Eugene and Annie (Bishop) Brown. She was one of six children, sister to Christine Foster, Mary Vedder, James Edward Bishop, Ralph Bishop, and Houston Bishop.
Margie was just a child when she met and married the love of her life, Robert Donald Butterworth, in 1951. They grew up together, loved and mourned together, and were blessed with 72 years of marriage. They were gifted two sons, Robert and Donald Butterworth and three daughters, Donna (Butterworth) Hardcastle, Denise Butterworth, and Doris (Butterworth) Wilson.
Through the years, their family multiplied to include six grandchildren: Owen Hardcastle, Londa (Hardcastle) Morgan, Daniel Wilson, Derek Stinson, Shelea (Wilson) Monroe, and Kyle Stinson. The Lord continued to bless and multiply Don and Margie's family through sixteen great-grandchildren: Sadie Hardcastle, Lily Hardcastle, Lawson Stinson, Adeline Hardcastle, Leyah Stinson, Daniel James Monroe, Lyndon Stinson, Eaton Morgan, Kayleigh Monroe, Knox Morgan, Logan Stinson, Addisyn Hare, Layla Stinson, Neva Morgan, Daniel Wilson, Jr., and Motley Stinson. Margie's heart was big, with rooms full of treasured cousins, nieces, and nephews that she loved like her own. She was rich in the things that matter most in life - family, friends, and love.
Margie's earthly life ended on December 22, 2025. She spent 88 years on this earth caring for others, making friends everywhere she went, and leaving her footprints in the sand as often as possible, but most importantly in the hearts of everyone she met. She is now leaving her footprints all over heaven, where she has been made whole again and reunited with her husband and other loved ones who left before her.
For those of us left behind, our hearts are broken, but we are also filled with the utmost gratitude to God for giving her to us while we had her. We are thankful for the many beach trips, toes in the sand, and our favorite pier. We are thankful for hand-stitched quilts, countless meals filled with laughter. We are thankful for late night movies overflowing with popcorn, head scratches, back scratches, and arm scratches. We are thankful for strawberry jam, as thick, whole, and sweet as her love. We are just so thankful for Marjorie Marie Butterworth.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Margie's life and legacy on Monday, December 29th from 11:00am-1:00pm at Faith Baptist Church in Madison, Tennessee. A graveside burial service will follow immediately in the Garden of Peace at Hermitage Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Old Hickory, Tennessee.
Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all."
Proverbs 31:25-28 ESV
