

Martha lived in Nashville for most of her life before moving to Sparta in 2021. She was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, where she excelled academically and later taught English, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and students alike. Above all, she devoted her life to raising her family, a calling she pursued with unwavering determination, sacrifice, and love.
Martha was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, and her faith was a defining thread throughout her life. She was known for her sharp wit, her boundless energy, and a personality that never met a stranger — she found joy in ordinary moments and delighted in sharing that joy with everyone around her.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Evans Rogers and Gladys Leona Loyd; her husband of 60 years, Cecil E. Martin; her daughter, Mary Jo Martin; and her sister, Joyce Bain Pollard.
She is survived by her son, Evans Martin, and his wife, Kimberly; her sister, Marilyn Johnson; grandchildren Kerri Martin Painton (husband Stephen Painton) and Kevin Martin; and great-grandchildren Raleigh, Evelyn, Owen, Liam, and Jonah.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 31, 2026 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm and the burial to immediately follow at Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Ln, Old Hickory, TN 37138.
