Mary Ann West Tuck, beloved wife of Marvin D. “Woody” Tuck, passed gently into Heaven on October 4, 2018. Born in Campobello, SC, on March 15, 1932, right from the start she had a determined spirit and a heart for giving.
She met Woody in late 1951. He was a Station Agent for Southern Railways. Mary was attending Spartanburg General Hospital’s School of Nursing. In May 1952, Woody joined the Navy. After Mary graduated, she joined Woody, who was then stationed at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christie, TX. She worked in the hospital Nursery on the base for 3 years.
Their first child was born just before Woody’s separation from the Navy. They moved back to South Carolina, and Mary continued to work as a nurse, supporting Woody until he graduated from Wofford College. The family continued to grow until their 4th child was born.
Mary put her own career on hold until all 4 children had graduated from high school. She returned to work at Donelson Hospital as a Charge Nurse, until she retired. She then began another tour at Cloverbottom Developmental Center, where she cared for residents with disabilities.
She is survived by her husband, Woody; daughters Linda (David) Shiraishi and Brenda (Mike) Bolles; sons Michael and Robert (Debbie) Tuck; and cherished grandchildren Robert Clayton Tuck and Farra Emma Sue Tuck, all of Nashville, TN.
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 7th at Victory Baptist Church, 1777 Tate Rd., Mt. Juliet, TN, with the service at 3:00 p.m.
