Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, August 20, 2014, Mrs. Mavis Jean Whitaker, 86, loving wife of 28 years to the late W.P. “Whit” Whitaker. He preceded her in death in 1985. Mrs. Whitaker was a member of Warren Baptist Church and was the preschool child care coordinator at the church. For over 60 years, Ms. Jean served in this capacity in numerous churches in the Nashville, TN area concluding her devotion and service to The Lord’s children at Warren Baptist. Her gift was children’s’ ministry and she did this faithfully with her whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. Family members include her daughter: Janet Vincent (Andrew) of Martinez; son: Tom Whitaker of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren: Jamie, Ellen, Avery, Abby, Julie, Amy, and Drew; and sisters: Vivian Sebastian and Bonnie Perry. A Graveside service will be conducted at 3pm Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30907.
