Michael Scott Lewis

Michael Scott Lewis, 53, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2026.

Known to family and friends as Scott, he was a man of remarkable intelligence, boundless personality, and unwavering loyalty. He had a gift for connecting with people, a quick sense of humor, and a genuine ability to leave a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.

Scott dedicated much of his professional life to competitive gymnastics, serving as a Head Competitive Gymnastics Coach. His passion for the sport extended far beyond teaching skills and routines. He challenged his athletes to strive for excellence, believed in their potential, and took pride in helping them grow both as gymnasts and as individuals. Through his coaching and friendships, Scott developed relationships throughout the gymnastics community and touched countless lives.

As the son of an Air Force family, Scott grew up moving from place to place, an experience that helped shape his outgoing personality and ability to make friends wherever life took him. To those closest to him, he was more than a coach or a friend. He was someone who could be counted on, someone who stood by the people he loved, and someone whose loyalty never wavered.

Scott will be remembered for his infectious smile, his humor, his intelligence, and the countless friendships he formed throughout his life. His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but his influence will live on through his family, friends, and the many athletes whose lives he helped shape.

Scott is survived by his mother, Mary Lynne Lewis of Ochlocknee, GA; his brother, Dave Lewis, and sister-in-law, Kelly Lewis of Chattanooga, TN; along with many cherished friends and members of the gymnastics community who became an extended family to him. He was preceded in death by his father, Howell Lewis.

Visitation will be held at Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Ln, Old Hickory, TN 37138, US, on November 21, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Ln, Old Hickory, TN 37138, US, on November 21, 2026, at 4:00 pm. Following the service, finger foods and drinks will be served to those in attendance.
