Pamela Ann Daugherty Fitzhugh, age 61, of Hermitage, TN, received her angel wings on Tuesday, December 21st, after a long and very courageous battle with cancer. She was born on February 2, 1960, at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, to Joseph and Carole Clayton Daugherty.
Pam grew up in the Mount Juliet area and was a member of the Mount Juliet High School class of 1978. She spent her early adult years working at Donelson Hospital and Nurse Finders, where she met her future husband, Patrick Fitzhugh. They married on December 8, 1990 at Wingate Church of Christ in Nashville. Pam and Pat had two daughters: Caroline in 1991, and Cayla in 1995, which they raised in the Bellevue and Ashland City communities.
Pam most recently worked as a receptionist at Charter Senior Living of Hermitage, where she began in 2012. She went above and beyond by sorting mail, managing files, acting as the Business Manager’s right hand and the Executive Director’s go-to, serving food in the dining room, guiding activities for residents, and making special events for staff and residents memorable and enjoyable. In 2019, Pam was honored as Charter-wide company best, as their “Charter Human Spirit Captain.” She was a ray of sunshine that brought so much to so many; she gave hope to the residents and their loving families. Pam also spent the last week of her life at Charter Senior Living of Hermitage, receiving hospice care from the loving people she once worked with.
Pam previously worked as a paraprofessional educator at Ashland City Elementary School in Cheatham County, where she assisted teachers and other staff in providing students with a positive learning environment. Prior to Ashland City Elementary School, she worked in the daycare center at Nashville Christian School, where Caroline and Cayla attended elementary school.
Pam loved the Lord and was baptized as a teenager at Madison Church of Christ. She later attended Wingate Church of Christ and Western Hills Church of Christ. She loved country music, especially Toby Keith and Blake Shelton, and enjoyed reading books by Nicholas Sparks, Jodi Picoult, and James Patterson. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, drinking coffee, eating sushi and Mexican cuisine, shopping, jewelry, and loving her dog. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and her favorite flower was a red rose.
A beautiful and kindhearted soul, Pam was a wonderful lady who made the world a better place and won her battle in life. Her passing is a tragic loss for her family, friends, co-workers, and the local community. Her pain has ended; she is now in the most glorious place of all, with Jesus.
Pam is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Lee Daugherty, paternal grandparents William and Rachel Daugherty, maternal grandparents Theopolis and Mamie Clayton, and father and mother in law, Robert and Bette Fitzhugh. She is survived by her mother, Carole Daugherty, husband Patrick Fitzhugh, daughters Caroline and Cayla Fitzhugh, cousins and extended family, and her beloved dog, George Hobbs.
The family would like to thank the staff at Summit Medical Center, The Surgery Center, Heritage Medical Group, and Centennial Medical Center, for the care they provided during Pam’s many hospitalizations. The family would also like to thank Alive Hospice and the staff, management, residents, and families at Charter Senior Living of Hermitage for providing so much love and comfort during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pam Fitzhugh Medical and Family Expenses account on GoFundMe to help with numerous medical bills and family expenses.
