Rebecca Ann (Staub) Dickens, 87, entered eternal rest on September 5, 2026. Born on July 5, 1939, she was the first of two daughters born to Reba and Russell Staub. Rebecca grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, and graduated from East High School.
Family was at the heart of Rebecca’s life. She married her high school sweetheart, J.W. Dickens, on April 1, 1956, and shared her life with him until his passing in 1994. She leaves behind cherished memories of Christmas celebrations in her home, the doll room where her grandchildren loved to play, Keaton Theater performances shared with loved ones, and countless family gatherings through the years. She loved cheering on her children and grandchildren at their sporting events. The women in her family fondly remember the many mother-daughter banquets they attended, while her grandchildren recall Easter egg hunts and Halloween celebrations hosted by her church. Rebecca was deeply loved and treasured by her family.
After a long career as a bank teller, Rebecca retired from banking and later worked part time in the ticket office at The Hermitage.
Rebecca was a longtime member of Hermitage Church of the Nazarene, where she faithfully brought her grandchildren to worship with her. She was active in the senior ministry and, after becoming homebound, enjoyed visits from the 80s ladies. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and her close circle of friends, appropriately known as the Go Go Grannies.
Rebecca had a warm smile and a wonderful sense of humor. She was blessed with many friends, including a special friendship with Eunice Smalling that had endured since high school.
Rebecca is preceded in death by husband, J.W. Dickens; son, Tim Dickens; parents, Reba and Russell Staub; and sister, Sara Quartin. She is survived by her children, Debbie Bobbitt (Wayne); Diane Durham (James), and Steve Dickens (Jennifer); five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her niece, Tami Moore.
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 10:30 am to 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Rebecca’s life will follow at 1:00 pm at Hermitage Funeral Home. Following the service, Rebecca will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery at 2:45 PM.
