He is preceded in death by his parents, Scott and Mattie Ruth Freeman; siblings Gloria Ann Freeman, Judy Carol Freeman, Mary Ruth Alexander, Eleanor “Patsy” Patricia Cunningham, and Charles “Chuck” Freeman.
He is survived by his son, Jon Freeman (Tracy); and grandchildren, Zachary Kelton Freeman (Ashley) and Kristen “Abby” Abigail Pittman (Ross).
Roy lived a life rich with stories, curiosity, and adventure. He was known as a gifted storyteller who could bring memories and experiences to life for those around him. He had a passion for collecting coins and enjoyed traveling whenever he had the opportunity, always eager to see new places and meet new people.
He was also passionate about fitness and staying active throughout his life and was a lifelong member of the YMCA
Roy was a proud veteran of the United States Army, a role he held with honor throughout his life.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Hermitage Funeral home 535 Shute Lane Old Hickory, TN 37138
