Rubye Edwards, 86, of Mount Juliet, TN, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023. Rubye was born November 17, 1936 in Dyersburg, TN to parents, Joseph and Gladys Dreaden. At an early age, she moved to Donelson where she attended school, graduating from Hume-Fogg High School.
Following graduation, Rubye met Joseph William Edwards on a blind date. In 1955 they were married and began a life together. Joseph’s work took them to Atlanta and Chattanooga before returning to Nashville where they raised their family. They both loved Atlanta Braves baseball and took the family on frequent summer vacations to see the Atlanta Braves play. Rubye enjoyed crafting, knitting, and crocheting and was quite the seamstress, making clothes for herself and family. Together Rubye and Joseph enjoyed bowling and belonged to several bowling leagues even up to the last two years. Rubye was a devout Christian and belonged to the Green Hill Church of Christ .
Rubye was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Gladys Dreaden; her beloved husband of 65 years, Joseph William Edwards; sisters Betty Dreaden Dean and Jeanette Dreaden Aldridge; brother, Billy Joe Dreaden; a grandson, William Michael Edwards, Jr.; and a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Mae Kimball.
Rubye is survived by her sons Michael (Jill) Edwards and Steven Edwards; daughter, Tammy (Gregory) Sellers; grandchildren Stacey Blady, Kimberly Edwards, Kelly Edwards, Danielle Kimball, Tara Minix (Jimmy), Angie Meadows (Jeremy), Amber Edwards; as well as sixteen great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place on Thursday, September 21, from 4pm - 8pm, and on Friday, September 22, from 11am - 12pm, at the Hermitage Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life will begin on Friday at 12pm in the Tulip Grove Room at the funeral home. Following the service, Rubye will be laid to rest in the mausoleum at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
