There has only been two men in my life that I have looked up to and have tried my best to live my life in the example of how they lived theirs. One of them being my grandfather Hunter Mir and the other my uncle Russel Richardson.
Not that they were perfect in any way, for none of us are save one, that being Jesus Christ, but in the way that they showed love for family, how that their word was their bond, not being prideful and bosting of what they did but being humble for those things they accomplished in their lives.
Uncle Russell was more of a father to me than an uncle. I have so many fond and lasting memories from fishing to flying. There has never been anyone I could go to for advice and could always count on, no matter what it was. Even when I may have not taken his advice and failed, I never heard a “I told you so”.
I can only hope, when it is my time to cross that finish line, I can say I lived my life like he did. Faithful in all things with my head held high, looking forward and seeing ahead those who have gone before are at the finish line cheering me on and be able to hear what I am sure my Uncle Russell is hearing now:
Welcome my good and faithful servant. You have fought a good fight, you have finished the course, you have kept the faith: now here is for you a crown of righteousness, which I the Lord, the righteous judge of all, give to you this day.
We are left here today with a heavy heart because the one we hold near and dear in our hearts is no longer among us. We will miss Russell for who we knew him as, a husband, a farther, a brother, an uncle, and a dear friend has now crossed that finish line of life. He has now joined in the host of heaven and now he is cheering us on, in our race, to the finish line.
We now shed tears in our grief. It will only last for a little time. Remember, we have been given a promise “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order has passed away

Jackie, I will always remember Russ punting football with me in our back yards on Bonnalake. He was always thoughtful and pleasant, and always greeted me with a big smile. I'm sorry to see him go.
