Sandra Marie Sorrell, age 79, of Hermitage, TN entered eternal rest with The Lord Jesus on May 9, 2022 after battling pancreatic cancer since January 2020 with great dignity and courage. Sandra graduated from Clay Senior High School, Toledo, Ohio in 1961 and also attended Nashville State Technical Institute. She was employed at Cutters Exchange/Saber Industries and retired January 2005 after 39 years of service.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Sorrell; parents Obie and Lillian Burton; brothers Obie Carl Burton and William Finis Burton; mother and father-in-law Irene and W. P. Burroughs; brothers-in-law Robert Denver (Bobby) Sorrell and Buddy (Junior) Poole.
Survivors include brother Kenneth Burton and wife Patricia, Nashville, TN, sisters-in-law, Anne Ray Sorrell, Watertown, TN and Linda Poole, Kingston, TN, special uncle and aunt Roy Eugene and Bettye Black, Nashville, TN; and many extended family members and friends.
All those who knew Sandra Marie knew that her world revolved around her beloved late husband, Ray, as she described “my rock of Gibraltar, my heart” who passed in 2016. She was his side-kick in all things, never missing a step with him. She said they “enjoyed working together on all projects and that she did a lot of gophering….you know, go for this and go for that”. She forged on after Ray’s passing, skilled at many things. She was displaced from her home for approximately six months after her home was damaged by the March 2020 tornado, only one month after her surgery for pancreatic cancer. All the while she was strong and courageous. Precious Sandra Marie loved Pepsi, Hersey’s Kisses, watching western movies and Perry Mason.
The family appreciates the many prayers, expressions of love, and encouragement extended to Sandra through this journey.
There will be a visitation for Sandra Marie on Friday, May 13, 2022 from 11 am until 1 pm with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 1 pm at Hermitage Funeral Home. Burial to follow in Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Samaritan’s Purse, P. O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 (Designate for “U. S. Disaster Relief”). This organization worked tirelessly at Sandra’s home, neighborhood, and surrounding area following the 2020 tornado.
