

Shirley Loyce Bond Abel passed away peacefully in her sleep June 19, 2023 at the age of 88. A prominent figure in the Donelson community, she was known for her love of squirrels, bluebirds, and red birds. Affectionately known to close friends and family as “Squirrely Shirley”, Shirley retired from the state of Tennessee and Donelson Senior Center, now known as Fifty Forward. She was most proud of the Labor Day BBQ she helped plan and organize. She also loved family gatherings.
Shirley was born January 30, 1935 to Loy Clark and Nell Bond. She is survived by daughter, Shirley Diane Jenkins of Hermitage; grandchildren Eric (Rachel) Abel and Jessica Jenkins; great grandchildren Arabella Jenkins, Xavier Jenkins, Ethan Abel, Lydia Abel; brother, Robert Edward Bond of Florida; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters and brothers-in-laws.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Loy and Nell Bond; husbands, Joseph “Pat” Abel of Hermitage and John Jenkins of Maryville; son, Jeffery Thomas Jenkins of Maryville; brother, Norman Bond of Hermitage; sister, Patricia “Patsy” Northcutt; niece, Patty Lynn Hamm; along with brother and sisters-in-law.
There will be a Gathering of Family and friends Saturday July 8, 2023 at Hermitage Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 2:00pm. A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00pm in the Tulip Grove Room the funeral home. Mrs. Abel and her late husband, Joseph Patrick, will be inurned together at Hermitage Memorial Gardens following the memorial service.
