Terry Thomas Hutchings, age 76, of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, traded his earthly walk for an eternal home on June 22, 2026. He was born on April 20, 1950, in Lebanon, Tennessee. He grew up in Old Hickory, Tennessee with his mother, Willie Mae Franks, and his brother, Randy Hutchings.
Terry graduated from DuPont High School in Old Hickory with the Class of 1968. After graduation, he met Janice Elizabeth Holder, the love of his life, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, while they were both enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University. The two married after graduation, and Terry began working for the Department of Human Services for the State of Tennessee as a child abuse investigator. After the birth of their first child, Terry went to work for his brother-in-law at Hoffman Better Plumbing, where he worked for over thirty years.
Terry was a devoted husband and father. After Janice passed away, he never remarried. Instead, he kept to himself much of the time – reading and studying – but treasured every moment with his children and, like most grandfathers, loved doting on and spoiling his grandchildren. Terry remained a widower for twenty-nine years until his own passing.
Terry was a devoted Christian who served in various church roles throughout his life; including that of Elder and Deacon at Goodlettsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and Deacon at Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville. He also taught a popular Sunday School class for years at Goodlettsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Terry is preceded in death by his mother, Willie Mae Franks; and his wife, Janice Elizabeth Holder. He is survived by his sons Brian Hutchings (Angie) and Kevin Hutchings (Shantel); daughter, Elizabeth VanderWielen (Jacob); granddaughters Abigail Hutchings, Madison Hutchings, Stella Hutchings, Chanel Hutchings, Colette Hutchings, Lily VanderWielen, Jenna VanderWielen; grandson, Elijah Hutchings; and brother, Randy Hutchings (June).
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends at Hermitage Funeral Home on Thursday, June 25, from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Terry’s Life will begin at 2:00 PM in the Tulip Grove Chapel at the funeral home with Dr. Jud Hays, officiating. Following the service, Terry will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Garden of Everlasting Life at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
