Vonnie Flener Thomason entered eternal life on Friday, September 11th. She passed peacefully in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center ICU surrounded by family and friends.

Originally from Morgantown, KY, Vonnie was a 1975 graduate of Butler County High School. She managed a local drug store in Morgantown for many years but followed her husband’s career, moving with their daughter first to Russellville, KY and eventually to Old Hickory, TN. She served Sacred Heart Parish in Russellville, KY for 15 years as their Administrator.

Vonnie was a fierce friend, wife, and mother. She was loving to those she cared for, and formidable in protecting those she loved. She had great friendships, both life-long and recent. She and her husband were life partners for 45 years.

Vonnie is survived by her husband Jim Thomason, daughter Rachel Thomason, brother Dean (Natasha) Flener, mother Marjorie Flener, niece Lyra Flener, nephew Cole Flener, cousins Dale (Stephanie) and Charlie Shields, Brother-in-Law Don (Kathy) Thomason, and one aunt Opal Shields. As part of Vonnie's extended family, our hearts are really breaking.
She was an integral part of this family and will be greatly missed.
Since we moved to this area 6 years ago, we celebrated most holidays with the Thomasons...Thanksgiving at their house; Halloween at our house; Christmas at Dean & Natasha's house. Vonnie was also part of our "lunch bunch" that met monthly for the last couple of years.
Prayers & fond memories are what we have to remember Vonnie.
Our most heartfelt condolences.
May the Lord bless you & keep you.

I guess my fondest memories of Vonnie was the few times I was at her mother's house for Christmas get together in Morgantown. We lived too far apart so was unable to meet up with her at times. I know she will be sadly missed from so many friends and especially family. Rest in peace cousin.

My husband and I have known the Flener family for years and are truly sorry to hear of Vonnie’s passing. Sympathy to her family and special comfort to her dear mother, Margie. I will always remember the love she gave to our dog Quincy, the cocker spaniel. ❤️
