Warren David Hickman, age 87 of Hermitage, Tennessee, beloved husband, Dad and Grandpa, passed away February 18, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a great-granddaughter.
Warren was born on June 1, 1931 in Corydon, Indiana and grew up on the family farm. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he joined the Army Band in 1953. He was an accomplished trumpet player and served as Assistant Drum Major of the 289th Army Band while stationed in Japan.
Warren attended Indiana University in Bloomington and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1957. He was employed by Johns Manville, Prudential Insurance Company and Curtis 1000. In 1967, he started a specialty printing company, Personality Plus, which became Church Printers of America.
Throughout the years, Warren was a creative, successful businessman, an ingenious inventor and a skilled craftsman. He especially enjoyed spending time in his workshop.
Warren’s passion for music became his greatest hobby. Extremely talented on piano, keyboards and harmonica, he directed The Happy Singers children’s choir at Hermitage UMC and The Golden Follies at the Donelson Senior Center. He performed with The Old Spicers, The Elderberries and The Good Timin’ Old Timers. He loved bringing the gift of music and entertainment to senior citizens and nursing home residents across the Nashville region.
Warren is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janetta Ison Hickman; six children; Joy Blankman (Dave), Judy Myers (Phil), Shelia Denison (Mark), Shirley McPherson (Ray), Frank Hickman (JoAnne) and David Hickman (Donna); twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 am Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Hermitage United Methodist Church with Pastors Chris Seifert and Jacob Fasig officiating. Interment will follow in Hermitage Memorial Gardens with family members serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will the Ballinger Sunday School Class.
The family is grateful for the care provided to Dad by McKendree Village and Adoration Hospice.
