Lyme - Amy MacGregor (Hock) Wininger, daughter of the late Walter L. MacGregor and Amy Dibble (MacGregor) Cooke, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, March 6, 2026, just three months shy of her 84th birthday. Born June 6, 1942, and raised in Wethersfield, Amy was a graduate of Wethersfield High School. She was a devoted mother to her son from her first marriage, and was later married to Bernard “Bernie” Wininger, who predeceased her.
Amy leaves behind her son, James "Jimmy" Hock; three grandchildren, Timothy Hock, Rebecca Hock, and Sydney Hock; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Faelynn Hock. Amy is also survived by several cousins and many close friends, including her dear friend Carol Sypher. She also leaves her beloved cat Sammy who will go to a loving home.
Amy was employed by the R.R. Donnelley Company in Old Saybrook for 30 years. Earlier in her career, she enjoyed the flexibility of working as an Avon representative. She was a proud member of the New England Lighthouse Lovers and spent many summers traveling throughout New England visiting lighthouses with the group. Family and friends fondly remember, and looked forward to, receiving her annual custom Lighthouse Christmas cards, each featuring a different lighthouse photograph she had taken during her travels. At age 14, Amy became a member of the Grange in Lyme and subsequent member of the Connecticut Agricultural Fair Association. She was a volunteer for many years at the Hamburg Fair in Lyme.
Amy often spoke warmly of her childhood and teenage years, especially the two weeks she spent each summer with her Uncle Dick Dibble and Aunt Alice, and their five girls (Bonnie, Laurie, Teri, Sheri and Holly) at their lakefront home in Coventry - memories she treasured throughout her life.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Carol Sypher, who was tirelessly devoted to Amy during her long convalescence, and Nicole Commodore Mensah, her 24/7 caregiver who provided both care and comfort during her last months.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A Calling Hour will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home on 13 Beckwith Lane in Old Lyme, with a service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Reception. There will be a private burial at a later date at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford, in the Dibble family plot.
