Anne Marie DaRos

Anne Marie DaRos, 87, of Old Lyme, passed away peacefully due to heart failure in the company of her loving son, daughter, and one of her granddaughters on Sunday, September 13, 2026 in Hartford Hospital.

Anne was born on August 09, 1939 in Bayside, NY, the youngest of six children of Rocco and Anna Veccia.

Anne grew up in Queens, NYC, where she graduated from St. John’s University with a degree in Education, and then started her career as an elementary schoolteacher on Long Island NY prior to marriage to Dino DaRos in 1965. She continued her teaching after marriage until an eventual move to New London, CT when she left the profession to dedicate her time and gifts to raise her two children through their elementary school-age years. As she and her husband were avid tennis players, she eventually became president of the board of directors for a local tennis club. Her hard work and many voluntary hours spent supporting the member owned club led to being hired into a paid manager position which she occupied for ~30 years until her full retirement in 2015 due to physical disabilities brought on by rheumatoid arthritis and severe spinal stenosis. She embraced her retirement through passionate devotion and time spent with her two granddaughters who were her pride and joy. However, her disabilities eventually resulted in residency at the Gladeview Healthcare Center in Old Saybrook, CT from January 2023 until her passing, where she managed a cheerful and upbeat disposition despite her physical limitations and pain, always more concerned for her visitors and caregivers than for herself. The staff had only kind things to say and sadness to express upon hearing the news of her somewhat sudden and unexpected passing at Hartford Hospital. Throughout her life she cherished time and socialization with family, friends, and her children’s friends, often forming meaningful relationships with those who crossed her path and spent time with her in work, recreation, or caregiving.

Anne is predeceased by her beloved husband Dino in 2018. She is also predeceased by her brothers Joseph, Michael, and Anthony, and sisters Madeline and Viola. She is survived by her son Daniel DaRos; daughter Karen Bachand and future son-in-law William Farrell; grandchildren Emily and Avery Bachand, all residing in CT; and many loving nieces and nephews in CT, NY, PA, KY, and MD.

Private family services will be held in Hawthorne NY at a later date where she will be interred with her husband in Gate of Heaven cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Anne can be made to the Arthritis Foundation at https://www.arthritis.org
