Betsy was a classmate at Old Lyme JSHS and we shared many wonderful times together back in the “old days.” Among the most memorable were periodic trips to Seaside Hospital in Waterford, where we (and other classmates) spent part of a day with one of the residents. We often drove in Betsy’s grey Pontiac Le Mans convertible, which was a treat for everyone. We often ended those afternoons at the Rexall Pharmacy in Old Lyme sipping a coffee at the counter. Betsy also was co-editor of the Lyman, our high school yearbook or annual. Many long days and late nights assembling text, cropping photographs, and identifying underclass students. Good times for sure. We lost touch after graduation, as many of us did, and I did not hear from her again until just prior to our 50th class reunion in summer 2017. At one point she had planned to host the group at her home at Hawk’s Nest Beach, but health issues intervened and she was unable even to attend to other festivities, and she was missed. But that event put us back in touch with one another, and over the ensuing years we shared memories and updated each other about our lives and families and everything in between. We spoke on the phone, albeit infrequently, and she always seemed so upbeat and energetic and so full of splendid ideas about the creative things she wanted to accomplish through her art and her poetry. We visited in summer 2019 and from that I learned that she had a difficult adulthood, but she certainly did not seem to reflect that at the time. Regardless, she left us much too soon. She had much to give and she will be greatly missed. I hope others of her friends, family, and acquaintances will leave a note on this site so that together we can all enjoy a better picture of our friend and what she meant to us. In that small way we honor her life and the joy she brought to ours.

I called Betsy on March 24 and knew she was peacefully accepting the other side. She was a dear friend to me and my family through the many years in Lyme and Old Lyme. I remember first meeting her as the neighbor across the street and instantly connecting. We watched Lance and Bert scream at Notre Dame Football games, Chris and Emily play in the mud, everyone going to see Evan in plays at the High School and many, many friday evenings of laugh, talk, friendship. Say Hi to Lance for us, and also to Bert. I'm sure you're feeling free of the mighty chains this earthly life puts on us all. Be free my friend. Be free! I'll always love you. Sarah
