

Carolyn Anne (Barlow) Gilbert, formally of Old Lyme, passed away peacefully at home early Friday, September 4, 2026. She was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to George E. and Dorothy Isabel (Shapter) Barlow on September 25, 1938.
Mrs. Gilbert graduated from West Hill High School, Montreal in 1955 and attended Sir George Williams University. She earned a certificate in journalism. She was a freelance writer and reporter whose published work appeared in the New York Times, Reader’s Digest, the Old Lyme Gazette, and Main Street News.
Carolyn married Stephen G. Gilbert and moved to Connecticut in April 1961. Upon moving to Old Lyme, Carolyn joined the Shoreline Junior Women's Club, and became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years; serving as a state officer. She enjoyed observing politics, tennis, music, dogs, and spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Gilbert was predeceased by her first husband Stephen G. Gilbert, her second husband Robert H. Cooke, and grandson Stephen Joseph Gilbert. She is survived by daughter Nancy (Wayne) of Canterbury, CT, son Stephen (Charlene) of Westfield, MA, five grandchildren Amber, Benjamin, Megan, Molly, and Maxton, brother Alan (Patricia) Barlow of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and nephew Daniel (Samantha) Barlow of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
