

Clare was born on June 30, 1961 in Rockaway Beach, NY the daughter of James and Margaret Borland. She married her beloved husband Bill Rayder on March 9th, 1990 in Old Saybrook, CT. Prior to being married, Clare received her degree from Fordham University and worked in the financial industry at several institutions including First National Bank of Chicago and Morgan Stanley. She then spent a year with her husband living in England while he taught on a Fulbright scholar exchange. Clare was an avid traveler and loved going on any excursion with Bill by her side. She was a devoted mother to her three girls and spent countless hours volunteering and coaching at St John's School in Old Saybrook.
Clare was a beautiful soul who loved her family, friends and her strong faith. Her presence and personality were infectious and those who met her were drawn to her energy. She was an avid gardener, loved music, and was adored by all. She was described as always “up for an adventure”. She loved her home near the beach in Old Saybrook where she felt the most peaceful as it reminded her of her childhood in Rockaway Beach.
Clare is survived by her husband, three daughters: Julia, Meghan and Brigid Rayder, her mother Margaret Borland, as well as her siblings Margaret Halliday, James P. Borland, Catherine Merryman and her husband David Merryman, John Borland and his wife Bridgette Borland, Helena Trainor and her husband Dan Trainor, and many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
