Cynthia Thebaud Twining of Old Lyme, Connecticut, was an artist who traveled
the world with her family for many years before settling in Old Lyme. She died
there on September 29th, 2010 after a long illness.
Mrs.Twining, born Cynthia Crawford Thebaud in New York City, grew up in
Greenwich, CT and New Rochelle, White Plains and Rye, NY. She was one of six
daughters of Paul & Dorothy Thebaud. She studied at the National Academy of
Design, New York and painted portraits and landscapes all her life. Her work
was exhibited and many pieces hang in homes around Old Lyme.
She married Kinsley Twining in Bedford, NY on January 26th, 1946 and within
weeks traveled to Singapore by troop ship. Over the next years she had four
children in Singapore, Washington, DC, New London, CT and Tokyo, Japan.
The Twinings also lived in Holland and New York City. She spent summers in
Old Lyme and moved there permanently in 1968.
Her beloved husband of 56 years, Kinsley Twining died in 2002. She is survived
by the last of her five sisters, Renee Wilson, and four children: Dorothy Globus
of New York City, Kinny Kreiswirth of Montreal, Quebec, Alexander Twining of
Bronxville, NY and Edith Twining of Boston, MA. She had nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church of Old Lyme at 2
pm on Saturday, October 2. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a

CT 06371.
