

David P. Kus, of Old Lyme, CT, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on March 25, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Marjorie Kus (Mitchell) in 2018, as well as both of his parents, Frank and Eleanor Kus (Duplaga). Dave was born in Franklin, NH, on November 1, 1934, before moving to Old Lyme at a very young age. He was one of four children, he is survived by his brother, Theodore Kus (Old Lyme), and he was predeceased by his brother, Alvin Kus and his sister, Jeannette Rucker (Kus).
David joined the Army in November of 1956 and served until he was honorably discharged in January 1963. After his time spent in the military, he made a career of working as a Carpenter and a Plumber.
Dave was an avid hunter, had a great eye for taking photographs, and he had a passion for fly fishing with friends and family. He took great joy in planning and taking trips with his wife, and also with friends to places near and far. He even traveled across the country on his motorcycle. He loved going to the races, and attending local fairs, especially to watch horse pulling. He enjoyed cooking and having meals with family both at home and at local restaurants.
One of Dave's greatest accomplishments in life was being a father. He is survived by his Children: Renata Gray (Ledyard), Robert LaCombe (Westbrook), Katherine Lempicki (Ivoryton), Donald LaCombe (Florida), David LaCombe (Essex), Donna Cardwell (Virginia), Ellen Wolfe (Old Lyme), Carole Kus (Rhode Island), and Kimberly Dart (Oakdale). He also helped provide a safe home for several foster children over the years.
As time passed and his children became adults his role as father blossomed as he became a grandfather, and then a Great Grandfather. He was Pops, and Gramps to his 18 Grandchildren, and GGpa to his 11 Great-Grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, including his hunting buddies, racing friends, as well as his dedicated and lifelong friend Wayne Smith of Old Lyme.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 1st from 6- 8 pm at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Ln., Old Lyme. A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 2nd at 2pm in the First Congregational Church, 2 Ferry Road, Old Lyme. Burial with military honors will follow at Duck River Cemetery.
