I am so sorry for your loss. Del was a wonderful woman I got to know her visiting my grandfather at Chester village. My little son Thomas loved her so. She would sing with him at dinner. Our thoughts are with your family.

I first met Del and Leo back in '66 when I started dating Carol Grover.  For Carol, Del and Leo were like second parents-- I soon asked Leo and was thankfully given permission to marry Carol, in addition to asking her dad Roger.  We so enjoyed our many visits with Del over the years.  She was and will continue to be a treasured part of our lives.  Our sincerest condolences to all who knew and loved Del.  Keep those wonderful memories alive!

So many memories of Del...the strong woman who showed many of us the excitement of debating ideas, and giving voice to opinions no matter what the opponent said!  Del showed me how to stand tall and to be a leader in any crowd.  She was a woman ahead of her times in so many ways.

Del shared her home so generously with so many of us.  She was never too busy for a visit, loved to share her passion for art and the Connecticut River valley...Del opened her arms to all of the Hanrahan gang, always offering a listening ear and a warm hug.  Many friends can still hear her voice filling the room whenever you visited, "get over here and give me a big smooch!"  Del and Leo wrote the book on knowing the power of affection and connection.  In their home and ours, we were all family.

I lived a few houses down from Del on Sterling City in Lyme for years. Between the ages of 5 and 12, my cousin and I would join Del on a weekly basis baking cookies, playing with her beloved cats and listened to amazing stories of her lifetime. It was one of those things we looked forward to after hopping off the bus coming from Lyme Consolidated School. As a 20 year old now, I know I will forever cherish those moments with this INCREDIBLE soul. I know she would be so proud of Nicole Tiffany and I. She always was routing for us.

I have known Del since I was born in Old Lyme to Roger and Sally Grover. I have so many wonderful memories of both Del and Leo. My husband Tom and I will miss our visits to her when in the Chester area. May the love of those around and your memories of Del bring you a measure of comfort.

My Mom ( Dot Collagan Bennet) and I shared many good times and lots of laughs with Del..Always great food and a good glass of wine. A woman ahead of her time that told it like it was. I will miss you, Del

I met Del 75 years ago when I was 2 years old.  She embraced me into her family and her daughter Toni and I became inseparable summer friends.  Toni is still my best friend all these years later.  Del guided us through a golden childhood. She "salted" leeches off our legs in Rogers Lake, she encouraged hoisting sails in the canoe so we could take off on watery adventures, she supplied blankets for our forts in the bunk house or the sleeping porch, she sent us to the Old Lyme library to get books for our favorite hammock, she baked delicious pies, she let us nurse abandoned baby mice on the porch, and on and on, she was always there for us.  She had a great laugh and a good temper.  She wore a dark tan and many silver bracelets. She was bare foot and passionate as she organized Doug's baseball games.  She was unique, an American original, and a God sent presence in my life.  My memories and long and lasting.  Thank you Del, you were a force and I love you.  God speed.

Sad to learn of your Mom. So many fond memories from visits and political parties at Rogers Lake, as well as many Little League Games. Both Leo and Del always made the kids feel welcome and special.

Thank you for always knitting me my hot pink sweaters, eventhough I am certain you thought the color was horrid. I always had such fun swimming in the pond and river out back, visiting you and Leo at the beach in Charlestown, RI, and you teaching us how to catch sand fleas at the Hobe Sound and Miles Grant, Florida beaches. You were a strong willed, dedicated and talented woman who lived a long, full life. We will all miss you.

So many happy memories of Del, swimming in her pond as a child, rocking on the couch on her porch, special sleepovers for just me and my sisters. Dell was a special, fun, energetic lady who was a second mother to me and many of my 12 siblings.  She was also my Mom's most treasured friend.  The Hanrahan family will always carry her memory in our hearts.

Love and wonderful memories go with Del, on her journey to heaven.  She was a very important part of my mother and father's life, Jim and Pat Hanrahan, and the life of our family.  Though she will be missed, she will be in our hearts and homes, forever, always with warm thoughts and large smiles.  Love goes with her and out to her family.
