

Doris A. Recor, born April 28th 1942, passed away peacefully at her home, on Rogers Lake in Old Lyme CT, May 4th 2026 in the early morning hours. She is the beloved daughter of Irving and Billie Oertel. Dorris was born in New Orleans and moved to Hamden CT at a young age, where she was raised. She soon met her husband, a chiropractic student also from Hamden CT. They briefly lived in Davenport IA, where she helped with odd jobs to finish up Palmer Collage. Dorris and now Dr Recor, moved to Westerly RI. Where she and her husband built a chiropractic business together. Dorris was deeply involved in her community; she served as justice of the peace, officiating many marriages over the years. She also contributed to the startup of the Westerly Track and Athletic Club, and worked at the Chamber of Commerce as a secretary. Finally, she was on the supervisory committee and on the board of the Westerly Credit Union. Dorris was predeceased by her husband, her brother, Bill Ortel, as well as both of her parents. A devoted wife and mother, to her two sons, Jon and Bob. She was known for her warm and welcoming spirit. She found joy in the simple pleasures. A talented cook, baker and gardener; and an avid bird watcher. She was loved by everyone and will be surely missed by the lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, Dorris Requests we feed the birds, as she loved to do.
