

Doug was born in Alexandria, VA on September 3, 1942 to Laura Florence Pearson and Douglas Robert Evans of Alexandria, VA. He was the third of five children. He married Mary Ann Lacey on November 9, 1968 in Annandale, VA. They shared 54 interesting years together completing Doug’s goal of spending time in all 50 States.
He was predeceased by his parents and three siblings, Stuart Robert Evans, Anna Laura Evans Frere and Winfred Amos Evans.
Surviving is his Sister Betty Jean Evans Slingerland of Fredericksburg, VA along with his wife Ann of Lyme, Son Christopher of Niantic, CT, Daughter Elizabeth Evans Esterly of Uncasville, CT and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Doug was a printing pressman by trade after graduating from George Washington High School in Alexandria. He was secretary-treasurer of his printing union, IPP&AU #72. When McCall Printing Company left the DC area Doug moved his Family to Lyme, CT in 1975. He joined many community organizations, First Congregational Church of Lyme, Lyme Grange #147 (45 Yrs.), President of Lyme Grange Hamburg Fair, Lyme Democratic Town Committee, Lyme Fire Company as Secretary, Foreman, Chief, Founding Chief of The Fire Police, Member of The Seagrave Support Team, attending numerous conventions and parades. Doug Served as Chair of Lyme Recreation Commission coaching Basketball and Baseball. He was elected to a Justice of the Peace and Constable for Lyme.
Doug worked for State of CT as Toll Collector and Supervisor at Madison Toll Station, Motor Vehicle Department and Retired from CT Labor Department. He joined two retiree unions AFSCME and was Vice-President and CSEA as President.
Doug had joined Statewide Honor Guard and under their sponsorship attended the CT Fire Academy graduating to become a Planning Captain of The Honor Guard. He was also President of New London County Fire Chiefs Association, member of CT Fire Chiefs, CT Fire Police Association member of The CT Irregulars and served on the Board of Lyme Ambulance Association.
His greatest honor was serving family and community with the focus on enjoyment and achievement.

There will be a Graveside Service Saturday, January 7, 2023 11am at Eight Mile River Cemetery, Mt. Archer Rd. Lyme, CT followed by a Celebration of Life at Lyme Fire Company.
