Edward Lynch McGuffey
June 15, 1940 – July 12, 2020
Edward Lynch McGuffey, son of late Elsie and Edward Nowak, passed away peacefully after a sudden illness, on Sunday July 12, with family by his side. He was 80. Ed was a Mason and Shriner, a proud American, and a godly man. With his calm demeanor, he was a good listener and always made you feel like what you were saying was important. He enjoyed country music played loud, sitting by his backyard pool, being “mayor of the beach” at Point o’ Woods, time with friends, traveling the world, his church and bible study, and helping those in need. He was the favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews and a wonderful friend to all, but the true lights of his life were his grandchildren, who gave him great joy.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 40 years Janet (McKenzie) and his children: Carrie McGuffey, Jennifer Tyler, Sherryl McGuffey, Sherry Furlong, Edward McGuffey, Steve McGuffey and Kimberly Sue McGuffey (who pre-deceased him). He was the proud Papa to 17 grandchildren: McKenzie, Rilynn, Madison, Jennifer, Mark, Stephanie, Seana, Ashley, Matthew, Stacey, Stephanie, Bryan, Matthew, Rebecca, Shawn, Tyler, and Douglas (who predeceased him), and loved G-Pa of 14 great-grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by his sister and best friend Margo Gumkowski, sister & brother-in-law Jo and Tom Forcier, sister-in-law Jane, and best friend Bill Sampson. He was pre-deceased by “Mama” and his brother in law Gege.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 17, 2020 from 4 PM until 6 PM at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Ln., Old Lyme, CT 06371.
The family would like thank the caring MICU staff of Yale New Haven hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Hospital in Springfield, MA.

Janet, Carrie & Jennifer- you guys were the best of neighbors on Larkspur St back in the day. I will never forget the night soon after we moved in and Mike was away and our water heater was leaking and I was so clueless - I knocked on your door and Ed came right to the rescue. Loved listening to him laugh! Then years later you guys opened up your home to us in Hampden while we waited for ours to finish being built - great memories. My heart breaks for all of you. Sending our deepest prayers and thoughts, hugs and love. Midje & Mike

It was in Arkansas that I first met Ed. He and Dan were working at ANO & I met them there. When Dan & I got married it was Ed who walked me down the isle. His strength got me down the isle. Janet you are in our thoughts and prayers.
