James F. Berryman
August 17, 1934 – June 8, 2018
With deep sadness we announce that James F. Berryman died Friday, June 8 at Bridebrook Convalescent Home after a lengthy illness. Jim was born on August 17, 1934 in Astoria Queens New York to Rosalie and James Berryman. He graduated from LaSalle Academy, New York and attended City College of New York. He married Diane Faljean Berryman on August 22, 1954. He is survived by his son James (Jay) of Old Lyme and Michael and his cherished daughter-in-law Lisa, of East Hampton. He also leaves four beloved grandchildren. Timothy and his wife Allison of Columbus Ohio, Dr. Jeffrey Berryman, his fiancée Molly of Blackburg VA, Gregory and granddaughter Michelle of Chicago IL and their loving mother Jeanne of Niantic. Jim was predeceased by his sister Margaret Purcell. Jim and Diane relocated to Old Lyme 50 years ago after accepting a job at Electric Boat. After 30 years, he retired as a Facility Manager and enjoyed many productive years. They discovered cruising and traveling to Europe. More than any place they enjoyed their two weeks in Aruba as they found a whole new “Aruba” family of friends. Jim became interested in computers and early on built many and gave them away to family and friends. He was also very fond of English mysteries and had quite a collection. The Sunday Hartford Courant crossword puzzle was something he looked forward to doing every week. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Ben Newton of this Smilow Cancer Center in Waterford, along with his, caring staff especially Amanda and Anna, who always made him smile. Also Dr. Const Manthous, who gave him great care and bought quality of life to Jim until his last days. We appreciate the care that Nurse Dawn McDermott of South Eastern Hospice Center took. We’d also like to thank Father Joe who provided great comfort during this difficult time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 13 at 11 AM at Christ the King Church 1 McCurdy Rd. Old Lyme. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. www.stjude.org/donate.
