Peg was born in NYC on June 17, 1931 to Arthur Wall and Margaret Wall. The family moved to Ozone Park, NY when Peg was six weeks old. Sadly, on January 3, 1934 Peg's mother, Margaret, died of pneumonia. Peg was taken care of by neighbors and her father. When she was eight years old, she attended St. Agnes Boarding School in College Point, NY. This school was staffed by Dominican nuns who cared for her with love and kindness. They taught her the valuable traits necessary to live a peaceful and happy life. Peg was always grateful for their help and devotion to her.
After graduation from St. Agnes Academy, Peg lived with her father and attended Katharine Gibbs School in NYC. After certification from Gibbs, she was hired as secretary to the Vice President of a French Textile firm on Fifth Ave. in NYC. She remained there until she married John A. Thompson on October 6, 1956 at St. Bernard's Church in NYC. They resided in St. Albans, NY until their second child was born. At that time, they bought a house in Brentwood, NY and lived there until moving to Old Lyme, CT in 1967.
A period in her life that always brought a smile to her face was the years she spent as secretary at Mile Creek School in Old Lyme. The teachers and the young children were wonderful to be around each day. She loved baking, cooking, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Time was spent tending to her seven butterfly bushes.
Peg is survived by her sons, Arthur A. Thompson of Charlotte, NC and his wife, Laura, James Thompson of Sebastian, FL, and Kevin Thompson of Old Lyme. She is predeceased by her husband, Jack and son, Michael. She will be missed by her "favorite McDermott cousins," Margaret, Eileen and Mary as well as her loving and true friends and neighbors in Old Lyme.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 6 until 9 PM at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Lane, Old Lyme, CT 06371.
