Mildred Jean Jackson passed away peacefully on December 16, 2018. She was born on January 10, 1928 in the Captain Bates House along the Connecticut River in Old Lyme. The daughter of George F. Houlihan & Grace (Morgan) Houlihan. She was the second eldest of 5 children: Faye Hubble, George Houlihan, Joyce Grisky, and Ronald Houlihan. She married William W. Plyler and moved to North Carolina where she became the devoted mother of five children: Pamela J. Cima , William W. Plyler, Stephen F. Plyler, James M. Plyler and David G. Plyler. She spent her life in Old Lyme, CT, North Carolina, and Georgia—where she fell in love with and married Walter Jackson. She was a hard-working woman her whole life and, until recently, was a long-time volunteer at the Old Lyme Senior Center.
She is survived by her sister, Faye Hubble; brother, Ronald Houlihan; four of her five children (Stephen passed away in 1979); 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grand children. She is remembered for her sweet and loving nature, eternal optimism, and her signature Southern accent.
Her family held a private memorial on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to The Old Lyme Senior Center.
