

Old Saybrook, CT- Nicholas Snowden Hill IV passed away peacefully at Middlesex Hospital surrounded by the love of family on March 10, 2012 after a short illness. He was born in Manhattan, NYC April 22, 1923 son of the late Nicholas Snowden Hill III and Constance (Hibbert) Hill. He attended Stevens Institute of Technology 1945, Harvard Business School 1949, and the University of New Haven 1980. He was a managing project engineer for General Dynamics for 23 years and an information systems specialist at United Illuminating Company for 14 years. He resided for 34 years in Old Lyme where his children attended school and 27 years in Old Saybrook. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
In his later years, he distinguished himself as a well-respected genealogist. He wrote several comprehensive volumes of genealogy that are now in the collection of libraries around the country. He was a volunteer genealogist for many years at the Godfrey Memorial library in Middletown.
Above all, he treasured his family and friends. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Barbara (Seim) Hill. He is also survived by his six children (and spouses), Pamela Vernon (and Dale) of Quechee, Vermont; Nicholas S. Hill V (and Sophia) of Sherborn, MA; Penny Hill (and Larry Wild) of Sarasota, FL; Wendolyn Hill (and Richard Sutton) of Lyme, CT; Melinda Hill (and Mark Yuknat) of Haddam, CT; and Jeffrey Hill (and Sherry) of Old Saybrook, CT. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Kate and Colin Vernon, Kyra and Allyssa Hill, Hester and Isabel Sutton, Alex Yuknat, Bethany Benak and Samantha Hill; and one great-grandchild.
Visiting hours will be at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Lane, Old Lyme CT, on Sunday, March 18 from 4-6 pm. There will be a private graveside service.
