She was born on June 1, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of James and Ursula Trainor.
She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in three years at SUNY, Brockport, summa cum laude; her Master’s Degree in Mass Communications at San Diego State International University, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Society; and her Juris Doctor at Loyola University of Chicago Law School, magna cum laude. She was a member of the American Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, and the Illinois Bar Association.
Patricia was Associate Director of Graduate Writing Support in Yale University’s Poorvu Center’s Graduate Writing Lab. She was passionate about helping Law and Divinity students excel at writing in their respective genres and achieve their academic and professional goals.
Before joining the Poorvu Center, Patricia was Vice President of Content at Simplify Compliance, heading up an editorial team providing employers with information on employment, safety, and environmental laws.
She also had experience as an appellate court judicial clerk, law firm associate, and legal writing instructor.
Patricia was a gourmet cook and baker, avid reader, published writer, and loving mother.
She also enjoyed hiking and hanging out with her rescue dog, Skye.
Despite her many accomplishments, Patricia was humble and unpretentious and loved and respected by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and desire to help others; family, students, and co-workers alike. She had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh.
Patricia is survived by her husband Don LeRoi, daughter Diana, son Patrick, stepsons Judson and Shaun, siblings Brendan, Maura, Kathleen, Deirdre, and Ursula; sister-in-law Liz; grandchildren Elise, Emily, Ethan, and Dax; and 16 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Brian, and stepdaughter, Heather.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Ln., Old Lyme, CT. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 3rd, at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders, American Cancer Society, or a charity of choice.
