I was out of the country when Phil passed and  missed the services.  After being reminded of him yesterday, I wanted to share a memory that I think perfectly speak is to Phil's character and spirit.

I saw Phil as a father figure and we enjoyed many a great conversation over the years.  A while back, I was faced with a very difficult situation:  

Like a good friend, he was there anytime I asked for help. 

But Phil rarely let it come to that.  Like a great person, he usually reached out first.

I consider myself lucky to call Phil a friend.

Working with an acquaintance on a Hartford based project, I said "you need to get in touch with Phil Schonberger: what a shock and sorrow it was when the first entry on the "net was Phil's obituary. I am distressed that i missed the original notice and thus the memorial service. My love and sympathy to Robin, and the boys. I met Phil when he returned to Hartford, participated with him at the Artists Collective, and thoroughly enjoyed his good company in many ways and at many times. It remains a shock that I can no longer "ask Phil": he was a blessing> Lou Loomis

Rest in Peace Phil.  A wonderful friend beginning early days of elementary school.  Thanks for being in all my milestone events and your never ending sage advice.  You will be missed.

My daughter , Lauren, spoke of Phil often and how much she loved him. In the brief time that she knew him he became like a second father to her.

Phil will live on in all our hearts through so many memories we all share of time spent with this special man. Phil had a way of making everyone feel like they were his best friend. We will miss him very much.

What a great person we have lost! Remembering now his work with the Connecticut Humanities Council, his voracious appetite as a reader of many books, and his creative energies as an antiques dealer and entrepreneur. And above all, I will remember that he lived the truth that one person can truly make a difference in the world.

I was so saddened when hearing about Phil this morning. I worked for him for 7 years and I have so many wonderful memories of him. He was a remarkable man and will be greatly missed by so many. I am so very sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort in all of the wonderful memories of him.
