He went to school at Springfield Technical High School, class of 1961, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Catharine (Cathy) Elizabeth Hanley, on October 8, 1966.
Bob became a National Guard member while starting his career at Smith & Wesson in Springfield, MA. Over the years, Bob worked relentlessly to take on more and more responsibility for the manufacturing operation at S&W. Over his 41-year career, Bob managed and influenced hundreds of employees and achieved his lifelong goal of Manufacturing Director for the entire manufacturing facility. Bob’s family could not be prouder of his incredible achievement and kindness to everyone he worked with. During this period, Bob, Cathy and their 3 children were able to enjoy fun times with many friends and family in the neighborhood, taking boating excursions, and having a blast at their favorite vacation spots in Daytona Beach and Hampton Beach. Bob and Cathy later went to Maui and fell in love with the island and returned many times to soak up the sun and swim with the turtles.
Bob was then able to retire early and enjoy building a beautiful home with Cathy in Old Lyme, CT. They were soon blessed with 2 amazing grandchildren and have taken an active part in their daily lives and supporting their current education at the University of Miami in FL.
Bob is survived by his wife Cathy, brother Ronald Castonguay of West Palm Beach, FL, daughters, Christine Wetzel of Guilford, CT and Amy Foster of Suffield CT, and grandchildren, Hannah and Cameron.
