Roz was born on September 14, 1951, in St. Joseph, Michigan, the daughter of Ronald and Patricia (Schmidt) Gardner. She lived a life defined by resilience, independence, and an adventurous spirit. From a young age, she possessed a wandering soul that carried her across the country in search of new experiences, stories, and connections. Though her travels took her many places, she found her greatest peace with her hands in the soil, tending to the gardens she loved so deeply.
Roz had a remarkable gift for growing things. Flowers seemed to flourish wherever she planted them, transforming even the smallest spaces into places of beauty. Gardening was more than a hobby—it was her sanctuary, her joy, and the legacy she shared with those around her. Through the plants she nurtured and the knowledge she passed along, her love will continue to bloom for years to come.
Roz's compassion extended far beyond her gardens. She was an avid animal lover who never turned away a creature in need. Over the years, she opened her home and heart to countless dogs, cats, and even injured wildlife. Whether caring for a stray animal, nursing a wild creature back to health before releasing it, or simply offering a safe place to rest, Rosalyn believed every living thing deserved kindness and care.
In her later years, Roz cherished time spent talking with family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and wisdom gathered throughout a life fully lived. Those who knew her will remember her adventurous nature, her determination, her love of gardening, her devotion to animals, and the care she showed for those around her.
Roz is survived by her daughters, Alexandrea Carroll (Benjamin) and Mercedes Alger (Mike); her stepson, Keith Teachworth; her grandchildren, Genevieve Alger, Hazel Carroll, Willa Teachworth, Miles Teachworth, and Blake Teachworth; her brother, Greg Gardner (Sue); her nieces and nephew, Kantha Gardner, Amber Gardner, and Eric Gardner; her dear friend, Susie Armstrong; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Miles Teachworth; her sisters, Maxine Wiggins and Stephanie Murray; her mother, Patricia (Schmidt) Gardner; her father, Ronald Gardner; and her stepfather, David Haskell.
The family wishes to thank the healthcare providers and caregivers who supported Rosalyn throughout her final journey.
Roz's family finds comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in every flower that blooms, every garden that grows, and every act of kindness shown to an animal in need. Though she is gone from our sight, she remains rooted in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Roz's life will be announced at a later date.
