

Old Lyme, CT – Shirley Ann Boroughf, 89, of Old Lyme, CT passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024. Shirley was born in Manchester, England on December 6, 1934. She was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Gladys Palmer and brother Eric Palmer of Manchester, England. Shirley is survived by her brother Horace Palmer of Brisbane, Australia, and her two sons Gary Boroughf of Old Lyme, CT, and Brett Boroughf of Southbury, CT. Shirley also leaves behind her grandsons Greg and Derek and great-grandson Cormac.
Shirley was married to the late Roy (“Rocky”) Boroughf who was a Captain in the United States Air Force when they met. His career took them on many adventures where they resided in different countries throughout Europe and across the United States, including Manchester, England, Frankfurt, Germany, Amarillo, TX, Walnut Creek, CA, Jupiter, FL, and the list goes on! Throughout her travels Shirley enjoyed learning about different cultures and was an avid collector of antiques that adorned her home. In 1966 the family moved to Southbury, CT, where she settled in to raise her two sons and remained most of her life. Shirley enjoyed Ikebana, the art of flower arrangements and became an honorary lifetime member of the Southbury Garden Club, meeting dear friends and winning several awards participating in the Federated Garden Clubs of CT events. Shirley enjoyed the thrills of the stock market and was a fiery competitor during Scrabble games and Table Tennis matches. As a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Shirley will be dearly missed.

Burial services will be held at Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme, CT on Saturday, April 13, at 11:00 a.m.
